Kalk Bay including the fascinating harbourKalk Bay is a fishing village which still retains much of its original character and has a vibrant night life as well as interesting shops which are open seven days a week, the town was first inhabited in the seventeenth century by shipwrecked seamen and deserters. Fish Hoek was until recently the only dry town in South Africa, the land on which the town was built was donated by Lord Charles Somerset in 1818 on the condition that their be no wine house on the property. Simon’s TownSimon's Town has become one of the gems regular visitors have discovered. It is no surprise that they have selected this quaint village as their accommodation base. January to March seems to be the favoured months. Soon Autumn known as the "secret season", usually wind free and warm, will be discovered. Cape PointCape Point is one of the greatest landmarks in the world: a wild and scenically spectacular area at the tip of the Cape Peninsula and African continent. Cape Point is situated in the Cape Peninsula National Park and brown and white bontebok antelopes, dawdling tortoises and dashing ostriches can be seen on a drive through the pristine nature reserve. The flora too deserves your attention with 2 200 species of plants including giant headed protea bushes flowering in winter and pretty little ericas which you will not see anywhere else on earth.
Boulders Beach coastal park, which forms part of the cape peninsula national park, is one of the few sites where penguins can be observed at close range. The penguins can generally be found walking around park.
This
unique little eco village is positioned on the shores of the Atlantic
Ocean bordering the Cape Point Nature Reserve. With an abundance of animal
and sea life you can see anything from baboons to spotted genets to the
southern right wales. The nearby crayfish factory that processes up to
100 tons of crayfish a year can be visited by appointment whilst driving
along one of the most beautiful roads past Misty Cliffs. Scarborough is
an environmental village where most of the community is involved in preserving
the natural beauty which surrounds them.
Kommetjie's
local community has deep fishing roots and this is immediately noticeable
when you enter the little village as many of the locals make their living
on the rich sea life in this area. Summer time is cray-fishing season
and if you ask any of the locals in the pub you can pick up crayfish for
a fraction of the price you would pay anywhere else. Noordhoek
is a splendid little country village that basks under the midst of the
majestic Chapmans Peak and is well worth the visit. Noordhoek beach is
several kilometers in length and is a popular place to go for long leisurely
walks to Kakapo (an old shipwreck) or to just sit and watch the sunset
over the mighty Atlantic Ocean. Noordhoek has a large horse riding community
where one could ride along the along the beach with organised horse outings
with Sleep Hollow Stables. If by now you have had your fill of beaches
the Noordhoek common is an excellent place to go.
